CARING FOR THE SOIL TO CARE FOR PEOPLE
The dehesa is closely linked to Joselito’s pig. In freedom, our animals feed on acorns in this unique ecosystem of holm oaks and cork oaks, which for centuries has been their natural habitat.
More than 25 years ago, at Joselito we understood that soil health was key to ensuring the future of the dehesa and the natural feeding of our pigs. Since then, we have promoted research projects to protect and regenerate every inch of our ecosystem, convinced that soil health is also the health of plants, animals, and people.
This commitment has led us to collaborate with national and international initiatives to halt soil degradation, restore its microbiome, and ensure a living, diverse, and fertile Mediterranean forest for future generations.
In our biofermentation plant, we develop innovative solutions to enrich soils, relying on the science of One Health: a single health that connects the well-being of the land, plants, animals, and people.

INNOVATION, HEALTH AND TRANSPARENCY
The DEHELIFE project that has received the award focuses on regenerating dehesa soils by researching their microbiome, to enrich and improve health within the One Health strategy.
It is an interdisciplinary research project, promoted by Joselito's R&D department and with Complutense research seal, funded by CDTI

Joselito has been the first agri-food company in the world to obtain the prestigious PEFC seal, for its reforestation work in the Dehesa, and the GGN seal awarded by GlobalGap for our sustainable livestock. This work in environmental conservation has allowed Joselito to be awarded with the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certificate, which endorses our sustainable and respectful exploitation of the dehesa, with a commendable reforestation task, planting more than 545,589 holm oaks and cork oaks since 2003.
